    AS IS Vintage Hand Painted Tibetan Blue Mahakala Thangka that has been in storage over 30 years is ready to go to a good home. It measures 20 inches by 29 inches approximately. This thangka dates 1850 - 1910 approximately and acquired some time before the 1980s.
    The blue Mahakala is known as the God of Time, Maya, Creation, Destruction and Power. He is a deity common to Hinduism and Tantric Buddhism. In Buddhism, Mahākāla is a fierce form of Vishnu. While in Hinduism, Mahākāla is a fierce manifestation of both Shiva and Vishnu (Narasimha),and is the consort of the goddess Mahākālī; he most prominently appears in the Kalikula sect of Shaktism. Mahākāla also appears as a protector deity known as a dharmapala in Vajrayana, Chinese Esoteric, and Tibetan Buddhism.
