On August 14, 1985, the U.S. Postal Service issued these
    Social Security Act
gummed 22¢ stamps in Baltimore, MD - celebrating the 50th anniversary of the day President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law. The stamp design, by Robert Brangwyne of Boston, MA, was based on the Social Security card held by millions of Americans - rendered in the same two shades of blue, and featuring the card's familiar twin columns.
Pictured in the center of the stamp are silhouetted figures of three children and four adults, representing the broad spectrum of Americans benefiting from Social Security legislation.
